Antitrust Authority Imposes Injunction on Russia's Largest Salt Producer
The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) in Russia has been scrutinising the actions of LLC 'Russol', the country's largest food salt producer, for potential violations of antitrust legislation. According to recent reports, the FAS is investigating LLC 'Russol' for possible evasion of supply contracts, refusal to supply goods, and failure to notify about contract campaigns, which are all actions that could potentially breach competition protection law.
However, it is important to note that as of mid-2025, there are no publicly available recent reports or official sources indicating any current antitrust investigation into Russol regarding potential violations of antitrust legislation.
Despite this, the FAS has issued a warning to LLC 'Russol', emphasising the need for the company to develop a transparent trade policy and to eliminate any identified violations. The FAS also highlighted the importance of LLC 'Russol' outlining non-discriminatory conditions for contracts and pricing principles that exclude unreasonable price increases for socially significant goods.
In 2024, LLC 'Russol' held a dominant position on the wholesale market for food salt, making it a significant player in the Russian food salt market. The FAS believes that implementing these requirements will reduce the risks of violating antitrust legislation on the food salt market.
It is worth mentioning that FAS Russia is planning to strengthen control over utility tariffs from July 1, 2025, with the aim of reducing the risks of violating antitrust legislation.
As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen whether LLC 'Russol' will be found to have violated antitrust legislation. Until then, the company will continue to operate as usual, supplying food salt to various entities across Russia.
