Announced: Contenders for the 2025 Hagerty Festival of the Ordinary Concours de l'Ordinaire
The Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional, an event dedicated to celebrating the ordinary, is set to take place on Saturday 26th July in Lincolnshire, UK. This year, a panel of esteemed judges will be scrutinising fifty finalists, each representing the pinnacle of the mundane in British motoring history.
Mark Roper, Managing Director of Hagerty International, expressed the challenge in selecting the finalists, stating, "It was a tough task to whittle down hundreds of entries to just fifty."
One of the finalists is a 1984 Montego, Austin's response to the Ford Sierra and Vauxhall Cavalier. This particular Montego still boasts its original dealer sticker and number plates, and has only 12,000 miles on the clock. The Montego holds a "special" place in British motoring history as the last car to wear the famous Austin name.
Another ordinary car making an appearance is the 1986 Bedford Rascal, a product of Luton. This vehicle, now part of the popular Kei car culture in Japan, has only 18,000 miles on the clock and is painted in 'White Van Man' white. The interior features a brown plastic dash and matching brown heated seats.
The 1976 Datsun Cherry 100A 3dr, with only 6,000 miles driven, is another entry that has never been displayed at a show before. This basic model, with a 49hp engine and steel wheels, fits the criteria for the Festival of the Unexceptional perfectly.
The event also features a Concours de l'Ordinaire, where cars like the 1982 Austin Allegro Series 3 1.3 HLS, a car that was loved at the time but is now considered unexceptional, will be on display. A 1992 Skoda Favorit Forum, a car not held in high regard during its time, has also been accepted into the Concours.
The 1984 Ford Escort 1.1, a basic model with a 49hp engine and steel wheels, is another entry that fits the bill. This Escort was acquired by its current owner while on holiday in Portugal and remains completely original.
A 1998 Perodua Nippa EX, a car described by Top Gear in 1998 as a means to an end, has also been accepted. This ordinary car will join the others in the celebration of the ordinary, each telling a story of everyday life on the road.
Simon Taylor, a member of the FOTU committee for the Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional 2025, is responsible for selecting the finalists of the Concours de l'Ordinaire. The cars will be judged by an esteemed panel of judges on the day of the event.
So, if you're a fan of the ordinary, mark your calendars for the Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional 2025. It's a celebration of the cars that have carried us through our daily lives, the cars that have become part of our history.
