Firefighters from more than 20 departments were involved in extinguishing the blaze, which took four hours to bring under control. Thankfully, all 1,150 employees evacuated the premises safely, and there were no reported injuries.
The fire primarily affected the roof of the facility, and the cause is currently under investigation. Novelis is working diligently to evaluate the damage and make necessary repairs. In the meantime, the company has assured its employees that they will continue to be paid during the downtime.

Novelis is in contact with its customers and suppliers to manage business continuity and potential disruptions during the plant shutdown. However, the extent of operational impact due to the fire is yet to be determined.
The company has emphasised its commitment to employee well-being during the assessment of the fire situation. Novelis does not expect the fire to negatively impact employment at the plant, and it does not anticipate any negative employment impacts as a result of the incident.
As the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, Novelis remains focused on ensuring the safety of its employees and the smooth resumption of operations at the Scriba plant.
