Allgäu Region Urges Action on Transport Infrastructure
The Allgäu region, a vital hub for tourism and environmentally friendly travel, is calling for urgent attention to its transport infrastructure. With over 13 million overnight stays and an annual GDP of over €30 billion, the region's future relies on reliable connections. Key projects include the electrification and expansion of the Illertalbahn, modernization of other lines, and the expansion of the B12 road. The Allgäu GmbH, Regional Planning Association Allgäu, Tourism Association Allgäu/Bavarian Swabia, IHK Swabia, and Chamber of Crafts for Swabia have united to express their concerns to Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder.
The signatories have raised alarm about financing gaps in rail and road infrastructure, deeming them crucial for the region's economic development and tourism. They have requested an immediate zoom meeting with Minister Schnieder to discuss the allocation of funds. While the exact date and time of this meeting are yet to be confirmed, a related supervisory board meeting involving Minister Schnieder is scheduled for 'the coming weeks' after September 2025. The region's stakeholders hope for a swift response and a joint zoom meeting with the Minister within the next few days.
The Allgäu region, with its significant economic and tourism contributions, is pushing for urgent action on its transport infrastructure. The joint appeal to Minister Schnieder underscores the region's commitment to securing its future as a strong and attractive location. The outcome of their zoom meeting will be crucial in determining the region's transport network and its impact on the local economy.
