Alfa Romeo's first model from Bovensiepen Automobiles unveiled; a unique Alfa Romeo also revealed
In a bold display of contemporary coachbuilding, Italian car design firm Zagato unveiled two new automotive creations at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2025, alongside the initial production version of the AGTZ Twin Tail - an upgraded and restyled take on the Alpine A110. The legend-laden carrozzeria chose the prestigious event to showcase its modern interpretations of classic automotive designs.
The first of the new models, the Alfa Romeo 8C DoppiaCoda Zagato, showcases an ongoing brand collaboration that stretches back to 1921. The highly anticipated creation follows the successful Giulia SWB, and it pays homage to the extensive 8C series from the 1930s, as symbolized by the 2025 Best of Show award being granted to the 1934 Alfa Romeo Tipo B (P3) race car. This latest 8C model utilizes the 8C Competizione model as its base, creating a one-of-a-kind vehicle for an unnamed 'visionary Italian collector.'
As part of the concept cars and prototypes category of the Concorso, the AGTZ Twin Tail was displayed alongside entries from Kimera, Lotus, Pagani, and SCG. This limited-edition model priced at €650,000 before taxes boasts a twin-tail design reminiscent of iconic Zagato styling cues. A "Commission #6" version inspired by the legendary 1956 A106 Mille Miglia model influenced the design, presenting a modern driving experience melded with high craftsmanship as a contemporary reinterpretation of racing heritage.
The Concorso also marked the world premiere of the Bovensiepen Zagato at the FuoriConcorso exhibition. Founded by Andreas Bovensiepen, the scion of the family behind BMW specialist Alpina, Bovensiepen Automobiles aims to cater to a more luxurious demographic following the absorption of Alpina into the main BMW Group. The first car from the new company is a grand tourer reminiscent of traditional design, with BMW's performance champion serving as its foundation, promising both elegance and practicality.
Zagato's President, Andrea Michele Zagato, expressed his excitement about the future of Zagato design, stating, "We may have just started a new chapter in Zagato design, focused on researching tail sections and exploring new aerodynamic and stylistic solutions to spark innovation - just like coachbuilders always used to do." The Italian design house is slated to deliver its first cars next summer, further emphasizing its commitment to craftsmanship and modern engineering.
