ACS Industries Lands $9.9M Grant to Revolutionize PEM Electrolyzer Manufacturing

ACS Industries Inc., a fourth-generation family-owned global manufacturer, has received a $9.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. The funding will support the industrialization of novel PEM electrolyzer manufacturing methods, aiming to reduce costs and enhance performance by 2031. This project is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law's efforts to create a robust and resilient hydrogen supply chain in the U.S.

ACS, with nearly a decade of experience in green energy technology, will work alongside Plug Power, Tanury Industries, and the University of California, Irvine to complete this project. The collaboration seeks to create a paid internship program for disadvantaged undergraduate students and develop a certification program for operating and maintaining manufacturing equipment. Additionally, the project will establish a Direct Air Capture (DAC)-based factory, initially creating 60 clean energy jobs.

The company's expertise in critical components for automotive and industrial applications, along with their work on cleaning products, positions them well to lead this green energy initiative. While the exact number of new jobs expected is not specified, the project's success could significantly boost the U.S. hydrogen industry.

With the support of the U.S. Department of Energy, ACS Industries Inc. is poised to make significant strides in PEM electrolyzer manufacturing. The project's goals align with the Department of Energy's 'Hydrogen Shot' targets, promising a more affordable and efficient hydrogen supply chain. The project's impact on job creation and workforce development further underscores its potential benefits for the U.S. economy.
