£30 million redevelopment project affirmed for the construction of budget-friendly residences in Lancaster
In a significant development for the city of Lancaster, Eric Wright Construction has been appointed as the principal contractor for the Coopers Fields project, the first phase of the ambitious regeneration of the Canal Quarter area.
The Coopers Fields project, spanning over a 0.9 hectare site, involves the construction of 139 homes. This project is considered a significant step forward in making the ambitious housing vision of the Canal Quarter a reality. The regeneration project, which stretches from St Leonard's Gate to Quarry Road, is expected to provide a total of 580 homes.
Cllr Caroline Jackson, a city councillor, has stated that the regeneration project aims to revitalize the area by providing much-needed affordable housing. The project is part of a larger regeneration plan for the Canal Quarter area, which includes the creation of two public squares and more than 75,000 square feet of commercial space.
Eric Wright Construction, a leading North West principal contractor, has expressed excitement about the project. Phil Brown, the commercial director of Eric Wright Construction, cited their previous work in the area as a reason for their enthusiasm. The company plans to utilize their knowledge of green buildings and Passivhaus principles, developed on previous schemes, to deliver a highly sustainable project.
Under a preconstruction services agreement, Eric Wright Construction is collaborating with the design team under early contractor engagement protocols for the Coopers Fields project. PRP is the architect for the project, and Anderton Gables has been appointed as the retained consultant project manager.
The selection of Eric Wright Construction for the project is considered a significant milestone in the plan to revitalize the Canal Quarter area. The company's three-year contract to deliver over 100 new affordable homes in Lancaster's Canal Quarter is expected to contribute significantly to the housing and commercial development in the city.
The regeneration of the Canal Quarter area is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, creating jobs and boosting business opportunities. The project is expected to be completed in the coming years, and it is hoped that it will help to transform the area into a vibrant and thriving community.
